Painting All Things "INTERIOR"

Years ago my Mother, an enthusiastic gardener, bought me two Gardenia plants. 

I planted them by the window of my studio and, in a few years, they had grown into large bushes. Every early Spring they go from dark green to snowy white. 

I'm always amazed by the profusion of blooms. Once they start appearing, it's like they can't stop. 

There is a small window between the full flowering and the waning, which includes the snowy whiteness turning brassy yellow.

So I rush to capture a few with my brush.  

Bringing in the Gardenias also means perfuming the house with their marvelous scent, so its a pleasure all around. 

This year I wanted to try to paint something of their cascading profusion. 

So here's "Mom's Gardenias and Lemons" in a favorite Blue & White English Antique Vase I bought recently. I was pleased with how the flowers fall from left to right in a natural pose, very much as they grow on the bush.  Here I show the blooms' whiteness contrasted by their turning brassiness. 

Lemons are another favorite thing to paint, and I thought they brightened the subtle color scheme and picked up on the golden stamens of the Gardenias.
