In the art world, there is quite a bit of controversy about painting from life and painting from a photo. In my view, there are pros and cons to both scenarios.

Painting from life affords visual info that a photo often cancels. But then, such a choice either involves hiring a model, buying fresh flowers/produce, keeping a collection of artifacts, or braving the elements–exhilarating but also time/energy/funds consuming.

Painting convincingly from a photo takes a certain amount of proficiency and imagination to fill in where the photo lacks. It also takes being able to capture a decent shot. But it certainly can be done.

The featured painting is one of my most popular ones. It sold immediately, with two clients vying for it, and prints sell easily as well.

I was ever so fortunate with this shot capturing this Cardinal at the feeder as he preened and fluffed. Lucky photo! I wasn't proficient enough to effect the out-of-focus background but did it with my brush.

My husband loved the finished painting but commented, "Rare shot to capture that Cardinal fluffing. Are people going to know what he is doing?"

I said, "I'll just call it 'Fluffed Cardinal'" and Fluffed Cardinal it is.

I love interiors. Should have been an interior decorator. But then...not quite.

The call of ART was stronger.

So, I paint interiors. Make sense?

What is it in us ladies that loves, loves, loves pottery; and china; and fabric; and patterns; and shapely glass; and copper pots; and kitchens; and beautiful bathrooms; and cozy living rooms; and inviting dining grooms; and intimate nooks; and tinkling fountains; and blooming arbors; and garden paths?

Granted, the last three aren't exactly "interiors" but they are still "IN", that is, part of our intimate home-lives.

I think every woman is a born hostess. First to her own family. Secondly, to all in her life that she invites across her threshold.

The world of home and garden is our "realm". There, we imprint our personalities, all of the beauty of our soul-interior.

So, yes, as a home-maker, interior designer, I not only love to create a warm, "take-in" ambiance in every room of my house, but also to paint such scenes.
